The new school complex Markiezatten contains two primary schools, a nursery, after school care and a location for the foundation for day and living facilities. The complex is located in the new residential area ‘Markiezaten’. The combination of different types of education and care is offers the opportunity to create a new social centre in the heart of the new neighbourhood, and to stimulate contact between the different groups of inhabitants.

The complex is located on a sand ramp with a difference in altitude of four meters. This is used as a spatial element that runs through the central area of the school. An informal landscape with stairs is an integrated part of the building and frames the difference in altitude..
