Westeraam, Elst (NL)
Hans Goverde
The Westeraam multifunctional centre accomodates a school, a nursery, a health clinic, neighbourhood facilities, a residence for the mentally disabled and residential units for the elderly. Right next to its location the archeological remains were found of the largest Roman temple built in The Netherlands. The Roman temple was a source of inspiration for the design of the building around a courtyard. The collonade has been brought from the exterior to the inner facade of the courtyard that houses the elliptically shaped school building.
